The Road to Mexico
Four friends. Forty years. Still hitting the road.
Last winter, we piled into a van and headed off to Mexico. Two couples, lifelong friends in search of art, architecture, and a little winter sun. The itinerary included the studios of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and the modernist legacy of architect Luis Barragán—but the seeds were sown much earlier.
Here’s us on New Year's Eve, 1984: the same quartet, just beginning a friendship that would span careers, marriages, moves, and countless adventures. I’m behind the camera, my dear friend Pam is on the right, years before she would become my trusted photographer. A tipsy snapshot, long before selfies were a thing, but I treasure this photo for the time capsule it is.
A lifetime of adventures later, we're still art students and history nerds at heart.
